What’s new in TIA MCP
Overview of the main new features in recent versions. Minor fixes are not listed here. New versions are offered in the application as a regular update.
Version 2.11
Released 4 October 2026
Virtual FAT in PLCSIM Advanced
Motors, valves, analog measurements and PID controllers are recognised in data blocks automatically and get test cases. Scenarios can also be derived from alarms, an I/O list or a state machine, tag traces are written to CSV and the result is a PDF protocol with a log.
Extended F-program review
48 rules for S7-1500F: reintegration and QBAD of F-I/O, F-addresses and discrepancy times, cycles and watchdog, uncalled F-blocks and a comparison with signatures from the previous release. It is an aid to validation and does not replace the certified procedure.
Faceplates for WinCC Unified
Templates for a motor, valve, analog value and PID. Members of UDTs and data blocks are bound to the faceplate signals and missing HMI tags come out as CSV. The result is a template screen and a procedure for converting it to a faceplate type; Openness cannot create the type itself.
Alarm review per ISA-18.2
Priority distribution, missing and duplicate texts, alarms without an operator action, limits without hysteresis and concentration on a single device. A score, findings and an XLSX for alarm rationalisation.
Live values from a real S7-1500
Reading values and the operating state and recording trends from a running PLC through the Web API, only with a trusted or pinned certificate. Writing is off by default and, even when enabled, requires a preview, a one-time token and retyping the device name.
Project skeleton from a specification
An Excel file with devices and I/O becomes a plan for approval: PLC tags, data types for a motor, valve, analog value and PID, function blocks, station DBs and compilation. Name and address collisions are checked before anything is written.
Project audit in a single call
Review of all PLCs, a check of IP addresses, PROFINET names and communication DBs across the project, and a list of unused blocks, UDTs and tags. One verdict and a report in XLSX.
Manual update after changes
After the project is edited, the source data are compared, changes are assigned to chapters and only the affected text is rewritten. A revision record and a higher document version are created.
Install into AI clients with one command
Install_Clients.bat registers TIA MCP in Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code and Antigravity. It changes only the tia-portal entry, backs up the original file and can be undone.
OAuth sign-in for ChatGPT and Claude
A connector is added by signing in instead of using a secret URL: dynamic client registration, PKCE and refreshable tokens. You approve access with the owner's code, and only a client with the write consent may call write tools.
Agent permissions
Three switches on the dashboard: may the agent approve plans, download to a real PLC and write values to a running PLC. Only a person can turn them on; the AI has no tool for it.
Migration: CFC, FBD, methods and GRAPH
CFC and FBD charts from PLCopen XML are converted to SCL by execution order, function block methods become separate FCs and SFC sequences become S7-GRAPH. The I/O list can also be read from AutomationML (EPLAN).
Version 2.10
Released 4 October 2026
TIA → BAVIS
A ready BAVIS visualisation project is generated from the PLC: S7 and OPC UA connections, tags with descriptions and units taken from comments, motor, valve, analog and PID objects, alarms and screens. An optional simulation mode allows a preview without a PLC.
Software handover documentation
A PDF with logo: project overview, hardware and IP addresses, call hierarchy, block descriptions, data blocks and UDTs, I/O, HMI alarms, code review result, changes since the previous release and a handover protocol for signature.
S7-1500 diagnostics via the CPU web server
Read-only: operating state, diagnostic buffer, active alarms and variable values. The password is read only from a file or an environment variable, and with an unknown certificate the password is not sent.
Version 2.9
Released 3 October 2026
“TIA-MCP Copilot” add-in for TIA Portal
A context menu in the project tree (V17 to V21): explanation, code review and documentation of blocks, tag table checks, UDT explanation or a free-form question. The add-in is read-only and opens the TIA MCP web interface.
Security and users (UMAC)
An overview of users, roles, password policy, PLC access levels and certificates. Changes to users and roles go through tools with a backup, and passwords are never passed through the chat.
Online diagnostics, upload and download with confirmation
CPU status and accessible devices, upload of a station into the project and download to a real PLC. Download is disabled by default and requires an impact preview, a one-time token and confirmation of the device name.
WinCC Unified beyond screens
HMI connections, discrete and analog alarms, alarm classes, data and alarm logs, audit trail and runtime settings.
Block fingerprints and VCI
Fingerprints of blocks, UDTs and tag tables tell a code change from a comment change. VCI workspace management and a faster rebuild of the project index were added.
Safety validation and F-parameters
Preparation of activation tests and a printout for the Safety Validation Assistant in V21, plus reading and writing the F-parameters of F-modules. The tool does not confirm test results; that is done by a person.
Help for your own blocks (Shift+F1)
For each block an HTML help page is created in the project or library: interface with comments, networks, called blocks, a sample call and AI-written texts. Only changed blocks are regenerated.
